Is it acceptable to have a dark colors be the theme of a wedding?

I’m having a medieval wedding, which will involve all the guests in period clothing and my fiance wearing armor.
While my parents don’t like the idea they haven’t said anything against it because it is my wedding.
However my mother has complained about my choice of colors.
Both my fiance and I love darker more Gothic colors. Our favorite colors are dark blue and black. So, we decided to use those for the color theme.

Because there are so many different themed weddings these days any color goes really. But give your mother some space to get used to the idea.

If your dress was to be in medieval style in either dark blue velvet or satin and lightly trimmed with silver beading and a silver and blue head piece, and (If you have one) the train trimmed with silver I think that would be beautiful. But it is important that YOU feel good on your special day.

A daughter of a friend chose red and white, and her mother was upset, because these colors together used to signify blood and rears. But she and her bridesmaids looked beautiful. Her mother later admitted that she had made a good choice.

I would have your mother (or the grooms mother) wearing black. As I have known of mothers who disapproved of the wedding so turned up dressed all in black as they wanted people to know they were in mourning.
